From the 1940 musical “American Jubilee”
Words by Oscar Hammerstein IInd
Music by Arthur Schwartz
The sheet music:
Lyrics
As a particular friend of yours
I wonder if I dare, wonder if I dare
Ask a particular favor
When the Saturdays are fair
Wonder if you’d care, care to join me?
Refrain:
Will you be my bicycle girl?
Be my Daisy Bell?
If you’ll be my bicycle girl
Life will be perfectly swell
When we take an afternoon off
Up the road we’ll fly
Feeling happy-go-lucky and fancy free
I’ll sing to you, you’ll sing to me
Wherever we are we will want to be
While the world rolls by
