The sheet music:
Lyrics
We start out to spend an evening
We have so many things planned
But, darling, where does the time go
I just can’t understand
Refrain:
My, how the time goes by
When we kiss “goodnight”
And I hold you tight
Oh! me, Oh! my! All the crickets sigh
Don’t you s’pose they know
How I hate to go
We start out early
Just a little after seven
Then it’s quarter past eleven
And when we’ve just begun
It’s ten to one that we’ll need an alibi
‘Cause the clocks don’t lie
How the time goes by
