Lyrics

1. Broadway’s lights shone bright one summer evening
Jonsie went into a show
Saw the whole performance, was delighted
Jonsie couldn’t be called slow
Exit stage performers, show was over
For his hat he made a grab
Arms with flowers laden, stage door maiden
“Bink’s cafe for me my lad”

CHORUS
I’ll call a taxi, honey, just for you
Skimming o’er the streets we’ll go
Passing street cars, hansoms and coupes
Darting in and out now fast, now slow
Hear the meter clicking up each mile
Don’t it make you feel real glad
If you have the money
You can take your honey
Riding in a taxicab

2. Jonsie and the maiden had their banquet
They dined late into the night
When he paid the bill it broke his bank roll
Surely he was in a plight
Rain was coming down in sheets and torrents
Jonsie said they’d have to walk
Such a look she gave him, set him raving
But he managed to gasp out

CHORUS
I’ll call a taxi, honey, just for you
Skimming o’er the streets we’ll go
You have broke me now, but I am game
Hope you’re happy now that you’ve my dough
Hear the meter clicking up each mile
Gee but it makes me feel sad
I haven’t got the money
And must take my honey
Riding in a taxicab
