Lyrics

1. When young Augustus arrived on earth
His Papa went mad with joy
He invited crowds of his friends around
Just to see his wondrous boy
When he was brought out for their inspection
They said they thought he was just perfection
But to one another on the strict Q.T.
They said “dear me”

CHORUS
There’s something rather odd about Augustus
Just watch him circumspectly
You’ll notice it directly
I wonder who can be to blame?
It’s very sad but all the same
There’s something rather odd about Augustus

2. He grew a bit and was sent to school
Where his teacher cried, you dunce
You must leave my class and prepare yourself
For a whipping, boy, at once
Augustus fled from the man of learning
Half dead with dread and upon returning
The pedagogue applied the handy cane
But all in vain

CHORUS
There was something rather odd about Augustus
The master whacked him soundly
Augustus smiled profoundly
And judging by that bad boys looks
He must have hid some copy books
Or something rather odd about Augustus

3. He grew some more and he fell in love with
And he chose himself a bride
But the morning of their wedding day
All her friends took her aside
And said, My dear! Have you seen Augustus?
He does look queer, but then you can trust us
Then the blushing bride replied with cheeks aglow
“Well, I don’t know”
But you are quite right dears

CHORUS
There’s something rather odd about Augustus
It almost sets one thinking
Augustus has been, Oh! No!
He is so nice, he is so kind
But all the same well, never mind
There’s something rather odd about Augustus
