Just a Little Word Spell’d Y-O-U

From the 1914 musical comedy “Not For a Million”
Words and music by G. A. Walter, Jr.

The sheet music:

Accompaniment by James Pitt-Payne:

Lyrics

1. Webster was an educator
A brainy man was he
Which his great book the dictionary
Shows implicitly
But there’s a word that he defined
I’m sure I don’t agree
For it means all that’s good and sweet
And pure and dear to me

Refrain:
Just that little word spelled Y-O-U
It’s the dearest word I know
All the day long, in sweet dreams, too
Something keeps on saying you, you, you
When I press your hand so softly
Gaze into your eyes so true
Then I know that word spelled Y-O-U
Means just you

2. Mister Webster, I’m quite sure
He knew a thing or two
He fixed that word as it should be
Just right for such as you
If he’d defined it as you wish
There’d be lots of regret
For what would then, become of words
Like sweetheart, lover, pet?
