From the 1930 film “Show Girl In Hollywood”
Words and music by Bud Green and Sam H. Stept
The sheet music:
Lyrics
You’re nothing but “haywire” when you frown
Why must you be “haywire” when you’re down
Don’t you know it’s silly, is it hard to see?
You’ll never go “haywire” if you follow me
Chorus:
Hang on to a rainbow
Leave worry for just a while
And hang on to a rainbow up in the sky
Let sorrow and pain go
Gee! isn’t it worth a smile to see
Each little frown go hurrying by
Come on and check up on your disposish
Give trouble the air
Why be like the other fish
It won’t get you anywhere
So hang on to a rainbow
Hey! Mister, get right in style
And hang on to a rainbow up in the sky
Counter:
Mister Gloom, Mister Gloom
Tho’ you keep trailin’ me
I’ve no room in my heart to sigh
Mister rain, Mister rain
Don’t start bewailin’ me
It’s in vain, there’s a reason why
Oo, oo, oo
There’s a rainbow I’m lookin’ for
Mister Sun, Mister Sun
You can’t be failin’ me
You’re the one, you can get me by
