Accompaniment by James Pitt-Payne:
Lyrics
I spent two hours getting dressed
I have an orchid on my breast
I have new slippers on my feet
And my heart is thumping with a beat, beat, beat
And there’s music tingling in my rhythmic feet
But no one to dance with me
Refrain:
Manhattan moon
May I have this dance with you
May I find romance with you
Manhattan moon?
Manhattan moon
Hold me in your warm embrace
Won’t you take my lover’s place
Manhattan moon?
I know there must be lovers’
Murmuring and dreaming in the park
I know what lips are whispering
While dancing in the dark
Manhattan moon
I’m as lonely as can be, can’t you see?
Dance with me, Manhattan moon
